In collaboration with Panama and Mexico, the USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is producing 60 to 100 million sterile male flies each week. The effort is being boosted by Panama’s COPEG facility, which is already shipping millions of sterile flies weekly. Within the next 18 months, the first U.S.-based releases will begin along the Texas-Mexico border.
