After India's thrilling victory over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 final, Virat Kohli finally addressed the growing speculation about his retirement. And he made one thing clear—he’s not leaving anytime soon.
Speaking just moments after India lifted the trophy in Dubai, Kohli reassured fans that he would continue playing as long as he felt he could contribute to the team's success. Though he wasn't directly asked about retirement, the former India captain took the opportunity to set the record straight.
Kohli's Take on Retirement: "I'll Leave When the Time is Right"
While speaking to former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull, Kohli emphasized that he would only step away when he was confident the next generation was ready to take over.
"I try to speak to these guys as much as possible, share my experience, and help improve their games. When I leave, I want to leave the team in a better place. That’s what we are striving for—to have a squad that’s ready to take on the world for the next 8-10 years. And these guys definitely have the talent to do so."
Kohli also praised his teammates for their contributions throughout the tournament, giving special mentions to:

Bouncing Back After the Australia Tour
India’s Champions Trophy win was even sweeter because it came after a disappointing tour of Australia, where they lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 1-3. Kohli admitted that the team was determined to bounce back and prove themselves on the big stage.
"We wanted to win a big tournament, and we did exactly that. It’s an amazing feeling, playing alongside such talented youngsters who are taking Indian cricket in the right direction."
Despite scoring just 1 run in the final, Kohli had a strong tournament, finishing with 218 runs in five matches, including a century and a fifty.

Reflecting on India’s success, Kohli highlighted how every player stepped up at different moments, which made the victory possible.
